Dave, I love what you've done with the new site. The MBC President's torch has been passed. Now it's time for me to get back to fishing. Chuck

Hello Minnesota Bowfin Anglers. This is HenryV from over at the BAG site. I am co-president of the local BAG chapter here in the NC Triangle (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill). I;m a NJ/NY transplant (by way of Pittsburgh), and I discovered Bowfin on one of my first North Carolina outings. I've been fishing for Bowfin for 5 years now and they are without a match so far as I am concerned - the best sporting freshwater fish.
I'm also finishing a Bowfin book for the UNC Press. Along the way, I read a great many stories about Bowfin from Minnesota and Wisconsin. As you'll see when it's released, my basic opinion is that you have the most well managed Bowfin fisheries in the country.
I look forward to participating in your forum, and the best of luck with the new site! Sincerely, Hank

Hi y'all. This is the Bowfin nerd. I am not a fisherman, but have fallen in love with the bowfin and have spent every weekend for the past 6 years keeping an eye on the antics of the bowfins at Quarry Hill Nature Center here in Rochester. The first lasted here from 2004 until last fall, when she broke her back after jumping out of the tank for the third time, and was finally removed, although not before she dumped about 10 gallons of water over the side of the tank, leaving one last mess for the staff to clean up. The current fin came last fall from the Lake Pepin Marina, and quickly showed herself to be nastier than her predecessor. She was a bit confused her first week, and the bully catfish took advantage of that to shove her around. When I came back the next week, I found the new fin had ripped off one of the catfish's whiskers! It's taken months for the whisker to start growing back and he avoided her for some time. Now, both of them slug it out at night, as the swipes on both of them attest.
I'm hoping to do a weekly report on the bowfin here at Quarry Hill, and with the pond being drained for expansion and repairs, I'll try to address a question in my first report that has kept me wondering sine 2008: Is the bowfin at the Harry L. Buck Children's Pond, who was put in 19 years ago, still alive?

Nice to see a little traffic and non-fishermen are certainly welcome.
Do you have a website we can go to TheBowfinNerd?
