Greetings Bowfin anglers,
I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jim and I live in Two Harbors MN for majority of my life. My home town is Brainerd – Little Falls area. I have family all around there.
Here up North I am an avid fisherman from Trout to sunfish. I fly fish and spin cast. I mainly fly fish now days. Past couple years I only fly fish from a Kayak for the challenge. I am working on catching many different species on the fly rod. Pike, bass, walleye, bluegills, ext.
I now have a huge interest in the “Rough” fish. Specifically the Bowfin and the Long-nose Gar. Right now I am only focused on the Bowfin. I have never caught a bowfin and up in my area we don’t have bowfin populated lakes.
So my intent is to catch Bowfin on the fly rod out of a kayak and try getting more information to where I would find good populated Bowfin lakes.
I have started to do research on Bowfin lakes and I know have a few marked out that contain Bowfin but I have not confirmed if they are good locations.
Most of my fishing is done solo with a camera.
Hope this is the place to help assist me in landing my first Bowfin!

Welcome here! I don't really know any specific lakes that are good for bowfin, but the Bowfin Angler's Group Minnesota page might be helpful: www.bowfinanglers.com/mn.htmlKeep in mind they prefer quiet, weedy areas.
